Profiler Recruitment Market Update 21 January 2012 – Employment downturn and longer hours

I didn’t like what the media, ABS and government has said about 2011 being a year of zero growth for jobs. Global instability has slowed decisions in hiring the Australian government says but I would suggest what it is showing is a shift in our attitude to the type of work we do and how we apply ourselves. Our contractor numbers at Profiler Recruitment increased during 2011 as opposed to permanent placements – a sign of the times. Clients were choosing to place a contractor in the role. I do sound like a broken record to many candidates I speak to who say they just want a permanent job – the reality is there arent many of them at the moment – however there are great opportunities to help companies flourish  as a contractor, and who knows when the global market improves (which fingers and toes crossed it will) then everyone who has proven their commitment and skills in a contract capacity will well be rewarded with a permanent status. The key to survival in the job market I tell my team, candidates and clients are  – be flexible, work hard and seize the opportunity. Might sound a little old fashioned. Hot spots this week for contract and permanent work at Profiler Recruitment are utilities, local government, health and community services.
