I just had to give everyone the heads up who is looking for work at the moment – you need to go back to basics to your English grammar lessons and put a critical eye over your resume.
I was recently recruiting for a role that had a strong emphasis on policy and documentation and it was such a shame to be unable to proceed with applications due to oversights on their cv. Even the most educated, experienced executive can make glaring mistakes on their resume. Here are some really basic tips that can help:
Don’t rely only on spell/grammar checking your cv online but physically print it out and look at it word by word
Read it out aloud – does it make sense?
Give it to your friend, mother, partner, anyone you trust who cares about you to check it for you
Then repeat this process twice!
Don’t forget first impressions count and being in a very online world – you only get one chance and it is there forever once you have hit the ‘send’ button.
The most activity we have seen this week has been across the engineering services, utilities and 2nd tier financial services groups. It has also been great to hear some success stories from candidates who have been patient and their job search has finally paid off.
