Last week I wrote about how the market was jumpy with career opportunities in the consulting space as organisations outsourced and tenders were won and work is coming in. This week I am even more aware of how people’s career movements can be jumpy for different reasons . Promoting your professional career movements online when you get that new job is great – marketers can find you, old colleagues, old backpacking friends from uni days (in my own case) and suddenly they are up to date as to where your career has taken you over the last five, ten years. And you still look good! They want to get in contact with you and offer you a new opportunity in their organisation as you used to work together a long time ago and it would be great! You must be good now as you have a new job with a great company…..so why not go and work for another?
By all means explore the opportunity, but be mindful – how long have you been in your current role. a week, a month, have you hit the probation mark?.
I am wondering what the turnover statistics will show for organisations with the increase in social networking and online promotion through sites such as LinkedIn. Although people are reluctant to leave their roles becuase of the uncertain economy. It is very interesting to observe candidates be enticed to leave, or maybe they didnt make the right decision for themselves in the first place. That is a topic for another blog! Just be mindful that if your cv shows short stints with an employer, future employers may worry that you can’t commit although you must be very popular as everybody wants to work with you!
